Ten years ago, I embarked on a journey with the World Organization of the Scout Movement (World Scouting) that would change my life forever. A journey of service, growth, and impact. On 1st February 2025, I celebrate not just a decade of professional milestones but the countless connections made, stories told, and lives touched along the way.
Together with colleagues from over 40 countries across the World Scout Bureau, and with a wide networks of adult volunteers from every corner of the world, we have delivered a transformative educational programme to millions of young people, preparing them for active lives and and impactful community service.
My proudest contribution to our collective work has been in the areas of communications, advocacy, partnerships development and fundraising, not just in the Africa region where I have served for over nine and half years, but also globally in the new role I took in July 2024.
Beyond the professional impact, I have also achieved some great personal milestones that continue to motivate and keep me going. From building a stable family with a loving wife and wonderful children, to earning a bachelors degree, taking up numerous leadership and volunteering roles in and out of Scouting, and to becoming a published author. I also mentored young communications professionals from around Africa, honed my skills and hobbies in different areas of interest, widened my professional and social networks and recently returned to school to pursue a masters degree.
My adventure with World Scouting has so far taken me to 33 countries across Africa, Middle East, Asia, Europe and North America, delivering educational youth events, speaking at international forums advocating on issues affecting the world, and showcasing the incredible role Scouts play in addressing global challenges in their communities.
Beyond just travelling the world, I have interacted with the high and mighty and built a diverse network of friends, mentors, partners and professional colleagues. This has widened my world view, made a global citizen and inspired me in so many ways.
These ten years have been a remarkable chapter in my life. They’ve taught me the value of service, the power of collaboration, and the importance of storytelling in driving change. I consider myself privileged to have had this kind of opportunity.
Looking into the future, I’m excited for what’s to come. My role now focuses on ensuring that Scouting secures the much-needed resources and alliances to continue to grow and thrive, reaching more young people with life-changing programmes.
To my colleagues, mentors, friends, and Scouts around the world – thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we’ve made a difference. Here’s to the next decade of impact, service, and adventure – together!
